A Culture is basically a set of beliefs and practices that have been done by a group of people. For example, when a guest comes to our home, we offer them a seat and a glass of water with a smile. Nobody thought this when we were young, but we learnt by observing what everyone was doing around us.
Many times, things that morally can be right, Culturally may be proven wrong or vice versa. I would share one incident.
In December 2013, I was doing my MBA in Finance where we had a subject called Entrepreneurship Development. The Professor did teach us a lot of concepts, assigned projects to learn and we did it with joy. I still remember the words which made me think deep inside -“I have transferred the knowledge that I had. Now you have two choices – You can comfortably choose a job and settle for life or create your own unique business and give more jobs to people.”
That made a deep impact on me and my friend and I were sitting in the Car Park zone of my college and building my business plan of Calligraphy Services.
Little did I know then that Culture influences Human Behaviour. Being into a Rajasthani Jain Family, where businesses run with investment of money was valued more. Anything new in the market which didn’t give daily cash was considered a hobby.
After doing MBA, you should look for a job based on the culture set.
To have a different mindset, you need to move with people following different practices (Culture) like one who thinks beyond. My mentor always says that You are the average of the top 5 people with whom you move around.
My understanding is Culture is learnt from people around us. What we learn influences our behavior.
